Today in History – Yellowstone National Park Established

March 1st? How did that happen? Let’s have a little “Today in History” fun.

I’ve always wanted to visit Yellowstone National Park, but haven’t made it yet. Believe it or not, on March 1st, 1872 Yellowstone was established as the nation’s first national park.

Points of interest:

1) Primarily in Wyoming, it also extends into Montana and Idaho

2) Native Americans have lived in the region for over 11,000 years

3) This is where the “Old Faithful” geyser spouts off

4) Yellowstone Lake is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest supervolcano on the continent. It’s considered an active volcano. (rethinking my desire to visit).
